Database Administrator - AWS Aurora MySQL DBA

This position can reside in either the Scottsdale, AZ Raleigh, NC or Ann Arbor, MI metro areas.

DaySmart Software is looking for a Aurora MySQL Database Administrator to join our fast-growing software company. In this role you will be working with the data team on the design, development, and delivery of data and database solutions. 

You will be working with enterprise-level data on multiple projects from enhancements to new development. These projects will work closely with software developers and business leads to create high-quality database solutions.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a highly collaborative self-starter with excellent communication skills. They will love to learn new things with MySQL and Aurora, build creative solutions, focus on automation, and have a strong sense of pride and ownership over the database.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage MySQL databases in AWS Aurora
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes
  • Monitor system's health and performance
  • Ensure high levels of performance, availability, sustainability and security
  • Analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time
  • Ability to identify optimizations, performance improvements, and implement solutions
  • Create and maintain existing documentation
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
  • Assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement
  • Maintain proper data governance and compliance
  • Provide on-call support for critical production systems
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours as needed

The experience we are looking for:

  • 1+ years of experience with AWS Aurora
  • 2+ years of experience as a MySQL DBA, or similar role
  • 2+ years of experience with performance tuning and optimization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • BA/BS in computer science or similar field OR equivalent experience
  • Ability to think critically and execute ideas

Additional skills we like to see:

  • Experience with Linux
  • Familiarity with data warehousing and ETL processes and tools
  • Experience with HIPAA security practices
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server
